This IDAHOBIT Day, Tweddle highlights how LGBTQIA+ families thrive when they feel welcome and safe to attend Early Parenting support services.
It was only 34 years ago – on May 17, 1990 – that the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems.
International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrates LGBTQIA+ people globally, and raises awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination.
At Tweddle, inclusivity reduces the risk of bullying, harassment, and discrimination against LGBTQIA+ children families and staff, promoting their emotional and mental well-being.
Ending LGBTQIA+ Discrimination at Tweddle
Discrimination contributes to the stigmatisation of LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. LGBTQI+ parents may face discrimination in various aspects of their lives, including early parenting and health services. Tweddle’s anti-discrimination policies encourage the visibility of LGBTQIA+ parents, children and families at Tweddle, providing positive role models and inclusion as fundamental values.
Anti-discrimination policies play a crucial role in creating a safe and inclusive workplace where babies, children and parents, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, can thrive, feel safe, and lead healthy lives.
Tweddle is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of rainbow families. We recognise that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people face barriers accessing support services. We have a role in ensuring the next generation of LGBTQIA+ children grow up feeling safe and equal.
The Consumer voice of LGBTQIA+ parents
We encourage and invite the consumer voice of LGBTQIA+ parents and carers to help shape our programs for all families. We invite the voices of ‘rainbow’ families who identify under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella for meaningful, inclusive and culturally safe participation.
