Maternal and Child Health and EPC Workforce Sleep and Settling Training and Fact Sheets
Over the past five years Tweddle has worked closely with the CFECFW and the Department of Health on the delivery of Sleep and Settling Training for the MCH and Early Parenting Centre workforces.
As planned, the training is now transitioning to the Department’s Maternal Child Health and Early Parenting Unit, in conjunction with Safer Care Victoria to support the transition of Sleep and Settling training resources back to the Department of Health.
Train-the-Trainer and Sleep and Settling tip sheets
Consideration is being given to how the resources will be made available to the workforce from July 2025 and beyond. Once determined, the Department will issue communications to the MCH and EPC sectors, including through the Victorian MCH Service Newsletter.
In the interim, the MCH sector is encouraged to continue delivery of the Train-the-Trainer approach (where this is already embedded in respective local-council operated MCH services).
- In addition, Sleep and Settling tip sheets continue to be available on the Better Health Channel website and on Tweddle’s website Sleep and Settling – Your Baby, Toddler and Preschooler – Tweddle.
- Resources and videos are also available on the Raising Children website.
Sleep and Settling Training – background
The Sleep and Settling training program was delivered by Tweddle to 2,115 workshop attendees via three different phases of delivery:
Online Sleep and Settling Training – focus is on providing a foundational knowledge base of sleep and settling information. An overview and six modules, plus a comprehensive resource library, have been developed and delivered from February 2021 in partnership with the Centre.
Face-to-Face Workshop Sleep and Settling Training has been delivered since late June 2021. This phase aims to provide a deeper understanding and application of the information presented in the online module training.
“Train the trainer” phase aimed to enable “in-house” training to new staff, to maintain the model’s consistency and veracity when working with families and babies into the future. An additional day of training was initially provided in May 2022 for the three universities and the ninety-six local government area nominated representatives.
Throughout the five-year Sleep and Settling project, Tweddle’s experienced workshop presenters, Beverley Allen and Le Ann Williams, supported by Cath Black, enthusiastically shared their experience and knowledge of evidence-based Sleep and Settling best practices and always received overwhelmingly positive feedback:
“The Sleep and Settling training content has been very helpful and will be amazing to help some of our clients.” Tayla, Balert Gerrbik, Koorie Families as First Educator VACCA
“Thank you for the wonderful training and the support whilst running this terrific program. Tweddle will continue to be one of the best resources for families and professionals seeking support with sleep and transition to parenting.” Kate Yardley, MCH, City of Port Phillip
Sleep and Settling Fact Sheets
A suite of 14 sleep and settling fact sheets have been developed to provide information and support to parents, caregivers, and service providers. These will support consistent and evidence-informed approaches to sleep and settling information sessions. Sleep and Settling Simple English Fact Sheets and Community Languages Fact Sheets have also been developed. Visit the Sleep – Your Baby, Toddler and Preschooler page to view the fact sheets.
