What is Salary Packaging?

Salary packaging allows you to allocate a portion of the money you earn before tax towards purchases and expenses. Because your taxable income amount is then lower, you also pay less tax on your take-home pay.

So what can you use it for?  Multiple options are available including car expenses, loans, health insurance, childcare, mortgage, rent, credit card, meals & entertainment, accommodation and even memberships and subscriptions.

As a public hospital the amount of reportable expenses are:

  • Expenses such as mortgage rent, credit card etc. – $9,010 which equates to $346.54 per 26 fortnight pay cycle
  • Meals and entertainment – $2,650 which equates to $101.92 per 26 fortnight pay cycle
