We are thrilled to welcome new Tweddle Board Chair Annette Vickery, a proud Gunditjmara woman with extensive experience across public, private and community sectors.
Annette is a signatory to the Aboriginal Justice Agreement Phase 4, an ambassador for the Ngaga-dji (Hear Me) report and chairperson of the Western Metropolitan Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee.
She has an active interest in social justice and human rights and is a lecturer at Victoria University on the social determinants of Aboriginal Health. Annette has been a Tweddle Board Director since 2018.
Annette has extensive experience in the public and private sector, community and stakeholder engagement, organisational capability, capacity building and change management with qualifications in HR, Psychology and Education as well as being a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Annette leads Thirrili, an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation which provides support to Aboriginal communities to reduce the trauma of the impacts of suicide and works with communities to support implementation of self-determined plans to restore resilience in their communities in the aftermath of suicide.
She is also the Chairperson of Tweddle Family and Community Services, a member of the Lowitja Institute and Suicide Prevention Australia and a Board Member of Postvention Australia.
Annette says “Tweddle is committed to providing accessible, inclusive practices and programs in the best interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families for a safe, thriving and strong start to life. We believe that indigenous babies and toddlers’ lives are better when they are connected to family, community, culture and Elders.”
