EOI invited for Tweddle Wyndham Aboriginal Artwork
Tweddle Child and Family Health Service is a registered public hospital, Early Parenting Centre (EPC) and state-wide health service currently working with the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) to build a new EPC in the Wyndham area. We are thrilled to announce invitations for expressions of interest (EOI) for Aboriginal artwork from suitably qualified artists for the design and development of three permanent public artwork at this site; 239-245 Princes Highway, Werribee.
Honouring Wyndham’s Aboriginal History
Tweddle acknowledges the Wyndham region’s rich and diverse Aboriginal history. The artistic process will honour this history and living culture as well as incorporate consultation from the local community into the design and development process.
The successful artist/s will be commissioned to create and design one or more of the three pieces of artwork. These may be 2D works that can be installed on glass windows or other mediums while we would like to focus on at least one 3D work.
Tweddle will be responsible for the production and installation, though the artist will be closely involved in the confirmation of finishes, materials and the supplier used for this component. The installed artwork will be placed in the following identified area in the centre:
▪ Artwork 1: This artwork will be placed on the glass window panelling as you enter the reception area and into the community learning space. Artist impressions of this area can be obtained. This space is a welcome space to the centre early parenting services and a place of learning for both families and professionals.
▪ Artwork 2: This artwork will be visual in our children play space in our residential unit. This space has a high arched ceiling and will be a hub for families as they attend the five-day program. We seek to welcome families while making them feel supported. Artist impressions of this area can be obtained.
▪ Artwork 3: This artwork will be placed on the wall as mural in our day stay program. The day stay program forms part of our community program and has a strong focus on learning and understanding.
Artwork focus and considerations
All three works should focus on:
▪ Connection to family, community and culture
▪ Acknowledge the rich and diverse culture of the Wyndham Aboriginal Peoples
▪ Babies, toddlers and families are centre to all things we do
▪ Recognise that this is a place of learning and growth
▪ Working in partnership and in collaboration to best meet babies’, toddlers’, and families’ outcomes
The artwork should consider:
▪ Tweddle brand colours of teal and white
▪ Local environment and landscape
▪ Historical colours of Aboriginal Peoples
▪ Welcoming and calming colours
The finished works should reflect the input and expression of the community, but it is expected that the lead artist will be responsible for the overall quality, execution and concept of the finished work. The brief is for the artist/s artwork and design to supplier standards.
Tweddle will manage the print and installation of the final artwork in consultation with the artist. The successful artist/s will be required to actively engage in community consultation, participate in media and promotional activities associated with the work both in development and upon completion.
The final artwork will remain in place for a period of 10+ years and until further work is commissioned to either replace or respond to this initial commission.

The deadline for EOI is the 18th of November 2022. We will engage the artist/artists from January 2023 with the anticipated installation taking place in July/August 2023 followed by an official opening and smoking ceremony.
