Consider ‘What’s Strong’ with your Family for National Families Week

By

This week is National Families Week (15 – 21 May), a week where hundreds of organisations celebrate the vital role that families play in Australian society.

It’s a time to reflect on the critical role that you play in teaching, supporting and nurturing your children as they grow, and to think about what is strong with your family.

Parenting support programs at Tweddle empower parents to help their children reach their full potential in life. Research shows the significant value of building strong relationships among the adults in a baby and young child’s life and the positive impact those relationships can have on the family as a whole.

We know that supporting the positive mental health of babies, toddlers and parents benefits us all through things like more resilient families, better educational outcomes and in the long term, a stronger society.

International studies based on family resilience shows that strong emotional bonds, effective patterns of communication, the use of coping strategies and family belief systems are important means by which families manage to cope with adversity.

Positive parenting is a key influence on children’s development. Wider family involvement can also assist families to cope with stress. Fortunately, the best things you can do for your child to prepare them for life are also the simplest and most natural.

Importantly, when families are supported to strengthen the first few months and years of life through specialist early parenting education such as Tweddle’s, higher costs down the line are saved, personal, economic and otherwise.

National Families Week is a time to celebrate with your family, make contact with your extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. It is a time to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family life.
