Welcome to Tweddle > Prison Program Prison ProgramTweddle believes that early parenting education is a vital component of supporting parents to raise their young children. Tweddle has been providing early parenting programs for expectant parents, mothers and fathers, while in correctional prisons in Victoria since 2000. These prisons are: Dame Phyllis Frost Centre for Women (DPFC) Reception, maximum security, medium security and specialist accommodation for remand and sentenced women prisoners. The first privately designed, financed, built and operated prison in Victoria; DPFC was opened on 15 August 1996 and received its first prisoners on 22 August 1996. Melbourne Assessment Prison for Men (MAP) A statewide reception facility providing assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system. Previously known as the Melbourne Remand Centre, the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) was originally built to accommodate remand prisoners. In 1997 the prison became the reception prison for all male prisoners in Victoria. Initial planning for the prison commenced in 1974. Construction commenced in December 1983 and was completed in 1989 at a cost of $80m. The prison was officially opened on 6 April 1989, and received its first prisoners on 29 April 1989. Port Phillip Correctional Centre Is a maximum security prison located at Laverton. Port Phillip Correctional Centre is the primary remand prison for Victoria and also has specialist accommodation for physically or intellectually disabled, hospital services and specialist, management and security units. Education Tweddle offers a range of services for these families from individual consultancy to group sessions. The sessions are designed to assist pregnant women, mothers and fathers to enhance their parenting skills while in custody. These sessions work towards developing parents strengths in raising their child in custody or providing access visits for their children on the outside.
