Tweddle goes green
Tweddle has made a commitment to reducing its environmental impact. To this end, Tweddle has adopted an environment policy, set key objectives and targets, and developed this environmental management plan for monitoring, achieving and reporting achievements.
Tweddle aspires to be a leader in environmental performance when providing our services. We see this as an investment in both the longer term future of Tweddle and in our environment. We strive to avoid environmental impacts resulting from our operations. Where impacts cannot be avoided, we will reduce, responsibly manage or offset those impacts. Tweddle is committed to managing all aspects of its business in an environmentally responsible manner at all times. At Tweddle we care about the environment, and we ask our clients to do the same.
Achievements to date
- development of an environment policy endorsed by CEO
- establishment of an environment committee which meets monthly targets developed for improving environmental performance against the 2008/2009 baseline for:
- energy consumption
- water consumption
- waste generation
- purchasing
- reduction of greenhouse emissions from fleet vehicles
- reduction in water usage by 30% before July 2009
- purchase of 10% of electricity as GreenPower by late 2009
- installation of grey water system and rain water tanks
- over 5,200 litres recycled / reclaimed water used per month since 2008
- separation of waste streams
- composting
- recycling
- duplex printing
- dual flush toilets
- lighting audit to identify energy efficient lighting opportunities
- replacement of lighting with energy efficient equipment
- installation of timer system to make sure HVAC are switched off after business hours
- adjustment of temperature settings to limit space heating to 20°C where possible
- printer rationalisation to maximise the efficiency of internal printing and copying services
- end-of-trip bicycle facilities including secure bicycle parking and showers for staff and visitors
- integration of environmental specifications into purchasing policy
- end-of-life computer/electrical equipment, furniture and fittings that are still in good condition are donated to staff, community organisations or charities, or sold at auction.
