Babies and Toddlers forgotten victims in CCYP family violence report

The Commission for Children and Young People (CCYP) has tabled a report in Parliament which examines the Child Protection service system and the needs of child victims of family violence and sexual abuse. The report’s findings, ‘Neither seen nor heard’, an Inquiry into issues of family violence in child deaths, mirror those of the Royal Commission into Family Violence which highlighted how children were often considered an extension of their caregiver rather than victims in their own right. The report however failed to address the often forgotten victims of family violence, the 0-4 year group and the services that support them.Read more...

Study reveals costly adult life-course outcomes predicted as young as age 3

Tweddle CEO Ms Jacquie O Brien has responded to the latest Dunedin Study results which demonstrated that adult outcomes can be predicted by as young as three years of age. The Dunedin Study, a longitudinal research study initiated 43 years ago in New Zealand, has shown that 20% of the population use the majority of public services, indicating long-term importance of early years investment for disadvantaged children. The findings reflect worldwide research around achievement gaps and how these open up in the critical first 1000 days of life, between conception and age 2.Read more...
