Tweddle Opens its doors as part of Children's Week

Posted by Kerrie Gottliebsen | 20/09/16

Tweddle is celebrating Children's Week by having its first Open Day. Between 11am and 2pm on Friday the 28th October, there will be a free BBQ, hourly tours and fun activities for curious families and old friends.

Tweddle Director of Clinical Services/Nursing Ms Kirsty Evans is looking forward to the event. "Many people don't know that we have 24 bedrooms here at Footscray, or that our intake telephone support team speak with over 80 families a week. Even knowing that over 20 families stay with us every fortnight for between five and ten days isn't well known. Our Open Day gives people a chance to come in and get to know what we do and why it's so important"

Activities planned for the day include music and reading sessions in the family room, craft activities in the conference centre and playgroud activities. People can have a cuppa and a bite to eat in the family dining area or gardens. "Parents will be able to ask specialist Tweddle clinical staff questions about parenting or our programs in an informal setting" Ms Evans said

Tweddle commenced in Footscray in 1920 as the Tweddle Hospital for Babies and School of Mothercraft Nursing. Tweddle will be launching a Foundation which will support the future of Tweddle.

Tweddle Child and Family Health Service has been providing early parenting support for 95 years and currently supports over 4,000 vulnerable families a year. Tweddle provide Day Stay and Residential Programs, programs for parents in prison, peer support for parents of additional needs, Childbirth Education, Parenting Assessment and Skills Development and therapeutic group programs for vulnerable mums and dads of babies, toddlers and young children.
