Child Protection Week Reinforcing The Importance Of Prevention

Posted by Kerrie Gottliebsen | 03/09/15

Launching on Father’s Day every year, National Child Protection Week supports and encourages the safety and wellbeing of Australian children and families.  As a Statewide Early Parenting Centre supporting vulnerable families, clinicians are constantly mindful of the children and parents in their care.

Whether it be our Residential Program, Day Stay Program, In Home Program, Parenting Assessment and Skills Development Program (PASDS) or Infant and Perinatal Psychology Service, staff are trained to identify verbal and non verbal cues that indicate that parents and children might need additional help.

This week, Tweddle is delighted to welcome Sri Kirkwood, our new Parenting Assessment and Skills Development Service (PASDS) coordinator.  Sri, who is a social worker, comes to Tweddle with exceptional experience including working locally and overseas with high risk families.  Her work in the past has involved child protection, mental health, QEC PASDS, and at Monash Health in various roles supporting vulnerable families and children.

“ I’m very passionate about working alongside a team that cares so much about families and children” said Sri “I’m excited about becoming part of the family’s journey and enhancing each parents’ strengths so they can play a positive parenting role in their kids future”.

Tweddle’s services are all about prevention and early intervention. A focus on primary prevention is supported by research that demonstrates the value and significance of early intervention and comprehensive approaches involving a range of child and family welfare sectors to produce positive outcomes for children.
