Families and community services celebrate Children's Week

Tweddle had a great time with many other community services and families at the Maribyrnong Council Children's Week picnic in Yarraville gardens. Although a little drizzly, we were able to share information about our MyTime and Psychology service. Tweddle Partner with Maribyrnong Council for Children's Week's

Saturday 19th - 27th October is Children's Week and Tweddle will be joining Maribyrnong Council and Community Partners at a 'Picnic in the park' on Tuesday 22nd October 10.30am-12.30pm in the Yarraville Gardens. Come down and chat with Kanthi from the Tweddle Psychology team and Eleni from our MyTime Program. There'll be face painting, story telling, women's circus and pampering massages. Benevolent Society Report recommends early years investment.

The Benevolent Society has released a report to mark its 200th Anniversary that sounds a serious warning about the wellbeing of Australia’s children, and unsustainable future costs to fix social problems which can be prevented by more investment in support for families during children’s early years. The report shows that the solution is acting early, especially by providing parenting support and early learning for children under five. Read more...

Tweddle are delighted to be sending a team to the upcoming Infant and Early Childhood and Social Emotional Wellbeing Conference in Canberra. The Conference, being held 30 October to 02 November 2013, is presented by The Australian Association for Infant Mental Health (AAIMHI) and the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY), in collaboration with the Infant Mental Health Association of Aotearoa New Zealand (IMHAANZ), incorporating AAIMHI's Annual Conference. Tuesday 10th September is World Suicide Prevention Day. There are over 3 million Australians living with depression and anxiety and help is available. We're delighted to announce that Medela has come on board as Tweddle's Childbirth Education sponsor which has enabled us to purchase some excellent new equipment. In conjunction with community partners, Tweddle is looking to introduce MyTime groups to Moonee Valley, Wyndhamvale and Altona North. Expressions of interest are sought from parents, carers and grandparents with a child aged 0-16 with a disability, developmental delay or chronic illness. The team at Tweddle come to work to make a difference. Thousands of families turn to us every year for support and guidance and to help restore confidence when parenting has become difficult to cope with. Our staff are also known for their generosity in helping others in need. Bianca is supporting WhiteLion through their annual Bailout fundraiser and dinner. Tweddle's MyTime Program locations update

MyTime groups commenced in 2008 to provide peer support, education and encouragement to parents and carers of children with a disability, developmental delay and chronic medical condition. The FaHCSIA Funded program locations were allocated according to community demand which has changed over time. Subsequently MyTime Hillside and Deer Park groups will cease from April 2013. We are pleased to announce that MyTime groups will continue in Altona Meadows, Footscray, Point Cook and Werribee Gold. Read more...

In 2011, Tweddle and Macedon Ranges local health providers started meeting to identify service needs relating to young parents living in the area. Teams from Tweddle, Cobaw and Kyneton District Health worked hard to bring the Playsteps Program to Macedon Ranges families. The program, based in Woodend, has attracted lots of local interest. Tweddle CEO to depart after a decade of service

After ten years of achievement, Tweddle CEO Vivienne Amery has decided to move on. Viv has led Tweddle for over a decade and has been an important part of the redevelopment of the early parenting sector. Her ongoing commitment has been to provide evidence based practice, capacity building and providing integrated services for more vulnerable families. This has taken Tweddle from a perceived 'sleep school' to a respected multidisciplinary health and family service boasting multiple regional and city based programs. Read more...

A recent paper published in the Journal of Family Studies written by Barbara Cosson and Elinor Graham reported on the perceptions of 27 fathers involved in five focus groups which were conducted in late 2009 on behalf of Tweddle Child and Family Health Service. The focus of the research was how dads might take up their parenting role and what expectations and perceptions they had of support services.Read more...
